Episode 3: Vishnu Sharma in conversation with Sushant Singh on Agnipath, the government’s newly proposed tour-of-duty model for army recruitment. Singh is a senior fellow at the Centre for Policy Research and a visiting lecturer at Yale University. He served in the Indian Army for twenty years. In this episode, Singh discusses how the new system for recruitment shows that the government is unwilling to admit its mistakes. He says that this system could obliterate the crucial distinction between soldiers and contract killers and that, in essence, it is bound to weaken the morale and motivation of the soldiers of the Indian Army at a crucial moment for border security. Singh also discusses the possibility of war against China.
