Jagjit Singh, who will perform in Bengaluru on 3 April, pioneered the ghazal wave in India in 1976, creating a new music genre with his debut album The Unforgettables with wife Chitra. Its emphasis on melody and Jagjit’s fresh voice was a departure from the conventional style of ghazal, which was heavily based on classical and semi-classical Indian music. His music added more Western instruments, while mostly retaining the traditional orchestra.
