Raghunath Manet, Chevalier of Arts and Letters, is not only an exceptional dancer but a choreographer, a composer and a player of the Veena. Manet was born in Pondicherry and has worked with the likes of Michel Portal, Archie Shepp, Didier Lockwood, Carolyn Carlson and Richard Galliano. His book, Shiva et ses 7 danses, written in French and prefaced by Jean-Claude Carriere, is an introduction to Shiva as a dancer, the god who inspired the French sculptor Rodin. He depicts the inseparable relationship between Shiva and dance, describing the five basic functions of Shiva-creation, destruction, preservation, purification and grace and his seven dances. The evening will conclude with a musical performance by Manet on veena and percussions by Sivamani.
