Indian music is known to centre around well-structured melodic and rhythmic compositions known as bandish, which represent a base upon which the edifice of the raga performance is sculpted and realised. This three-day festival at NCPA, a celebration of this concept, has eminent artists presenting works of great composers. The festival has Ajoy Chakrabarty presenting famous compositions of Bade Ghulam Ali Khan; Sudha Raghunathan presenting the melodies of saint poets Purandaradasa and Thyagaraja; and Girija Devi in the finale singing the works of Shambhunath Mishra and Shyamcharan Mishra, bringing to life compositions of thumri, dadra, kajari and hori.
