Based on a true story, Malai Aai Vhhaychy!, the 2011 National Award-winning film (for best Marathi film and director) engages with current debates around surrogacy and explores the idea of motherhood in the light of the rights of the child. The film, with English subtitles, is being screened as part of the National Centre for Performing Arts’ Fresh Pix series, which was founded to create an audience for regional and indie cinema that often does not reach a broader audience. The cast is made up of Urmila Kanitkar, Stacy Bee and Aiden Barkely.
