This year’s festival focuses on public issues and struggles. The highlight of the first phase that concluded in December was the opening Malyalam documentary Bandhi Bojanam by Sreebala K Menon, who took food as the central theme to show caste division. In the second phase that starts in January, ten half-day, one single day and two three-day film festivals will be held in colleges in and around Madurai over a period of six months. Among the hundred films to be shown are Koi Suntan hai by Shabnam Virmani, Manipur Song by Pankaj Butalia and Because There Are Things You Never Forget by Lucas Figueroa.

Second phase of the 11th Madurai International Documentary and Short Film Festival starts January 2010. For details, visit www.maduraifilmfest.blogspot.com or call + 91- 93444 79353
