The Kabir Festival is inspired by Shabnam Virmani’s documentaries for The Kabir Project, which followed a group of folk singers who travelled around after the Godhra riots singing the words of Kabir. Though many Kabir festivals have taken place across India, this particular festival in Mumbai has become an annual tradition, bringing together screenings of various films, supplementary discussions, folk music and storytelling every January.
