In 1997, when a statue of BR Ambedkar in a Dalit colony in Mumbai was desecrated with a garland of footwear, an angry mob gathered in protest. In no time, a police van pulled up a couple of metres from the mob and policemen opened fire and shot 10 people. Vilas Ghogre, a Leftist poet, hung himself in protest. Jai Bhim Comrade, a documentary shot over 14 years, follows the journey of Ambedkarite music and the tradition that Ghogre had been a part of. The screening in Delhi will be followed by a conversation with the film’s director, Anand Patwardhan.

Jai Bhim Comrade, 14-16 March, 2 pm, New Delhi, Engineering College Auditorium, Jamia; LSR; JNU Convention Centre, JNU, New Delhi.
