An ongoing exhibition at the Delhi Art Gallery featuring the life and work of Chittaprosad Bhattacharya brings together political drawings and propaganda posters that document the Great Bengal Famine of 1943-44. Set against the backdrop of uprisings against colonisation, exploitation and urban poverty, Bhattacharya’s iconic work has made him one of India’s most recognised political artists. The exhibition covers the gamut of his work over the decades, including drawings, paintings and linocuts as well as his letters, published writings, manuscripts, posters, puppets and photographs.
