The Hindustani classical singer Kalapini Komkali channels the spirit of phagun—the last month of the Hindu solar calendar. Phagun sets in a month after basant, or spring, and brings with it the hope of a fresh start. Inspired by the maestro Kumar Gandharva, Komkali’s compositions attempt to capture the burst of colour and new energy with rich, descriptive melodies that bring to life the coming together of man and nature.
