The Caravan is published by the Delhi Press Group, one of India’s leading publishers. Started in 1939, Delhi Press today publishes 33 magazines in 10 languages.
The Caravan has consistently striven to produce the highest quality journalism on public health in India. The magazine’s body of coverage on the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak is one of the few examples of independent, wide-ranging and critical reporting on the topic in the country. The Caravan hopes to build a dedicated team of health journalists to enhance the overall quality and scope of health journalism in India, producing everything from in-depth analysis and investigations to data journalism and spot reporting on some of the most important topics in health.
We plan to hire one editorial fellow with at least one year of relevant experience and a demonstrated interest in health journalism.
Primary Responsibilities:
– Working with and supervising reporters to produce accurate stories on the health sector that are at the cutting edge of public-health discourse in India
— Anchoring all editorial and production processes to publish reported stories, commentary and analytical pieces on public health
–Developing and maintaining a current bank of public-health-related stories and ideas, including ones that can be pursued remotely
– Staying up to speed on news and current events, especially in the areas of public health, politics, culture and society
– Importantly, as a member of the editorial team, being a keen observer and fast learner of Indian politics, culture and society
Requirements: Candidates should have at least one year of editing experience in health journalism, preferably with newspapers or news websites. The applicant should demonstrate a robust understanding of public-health discourse in India, top-notch editing skills, sound judgment and an enthusiasm for The Caravan’s commitment to improving the quality of writing and reporting in India. Candidates from marginalised communities are encouraged to apply.
The magazine’s Delhi office is a small shop, with the environment of a start-up, and requires team players with a willingness to be flexible.
This is a full-time position. Night, holiday, and weekend work may be required.
