Job Description: The Product Manager sits at the intersection of editorial, business, marketing and technology, with ownership of The Caravan's subscription business and digital subscription experience.
The role is responsible for driving sustainable subscription revenue growth through product strategy, audience growth, institutional partnerships, pricing, retention and continuous optimisation of the subscriber journey. The role will also be work towards building revenues through advertising and sponsorships, as well as developing branded content solutions, including developing event based IPs.
We are looking for someone who combines strong commercial thinking with product management skills, understands audience behaviour, enjoys working with data, and can lead cross-functional initiatives that deliver measurable business outcomes.
Primary Responsibilities
● Own subscription revenue growth across print and digital and continuously
improve subscription systems, CRM workflows, analytics infrastructure and
customer experience to support long-term growth.
● Lead the product roadmap for the subscription experience, working with the technology team to prioritise features, improve user journeys and optimise website performance.
● Develop and execute long-term growth strategies for individual and institutional subscriptions, including from educational institutions, governments funded public library systems, research organisations, corporations, and any other such entities.
● Explore, evaluate and develop new revenue opportunities, including
sponsorships, contributions, partnerships, events, merchandise and other reader- supported initiatives aligned with The Caravan's editorial mission.
● Define and own event IP strategy focused on monetization and premium brand positioning for The Caravan. Manage and maintain a nationwide event calendar with well-spread, niche premium event IPs.
● Partner with Business teams to design brand-centric integrations and plug-ins for digital and print. Coordinate with marketing, editorial, and operations to ensure seamless event execution and brand consistency.
● Track performance metrics, P&L, and ROI for each IP; report outcomes and optimize strategies.
● Drive go-to-market plans, launch timelines, and pre/post-event communications.
Requirements
● Three or more years of relevant experience in product management, growth, subscriptions, sales, digital media or a related field.
● Experience managing cross-functional projects involving technology, marketing and business stakeholders.
● Understanding of subscription businesses, customer acquisition, retention and revenue optimisation.
● Ability to balance commercial objectives with editorial values and user
experience.
● Familiarity with analytics platforms, CRM systems and digital marketing
performance metrics.
Preferred Skills
● Experience working in digital publishing, journalism or media organisations.
● Experience managing subscription or membership businesses.
● Experience working with product roadmaps, website development and agile
workflows.
● Familiarity with marketing and audience engagement strategies.
