Requisite experience

* 1-2 years of research experience, with interest in photographs and other visual material within the context of narrative journalism.


Role and responsibilities

* Assisting the photo department with researching and sourcing photos for all stories that appear in The Caravan. This includes research for magazine pieces as well as web-exclusive articles.

* Coordinating with photo departments/archives in newsrooms across the country to source photographs.

* Working with the photo interns and other editorial staff at The Caravan to organise and caption photos from the archives.

* Creating and updating databases of photographers and photo sources.

* Coordinating with the editorial and administrative staff to process and track payments to photographers and photo agencies.

* Assisting the multimedia team in sourcing images, as well as archiving and sorting footage.

* Coordinating or organising shoots for quick news stories and web exclusives.

* Carrying out all administrative assistant roles related to the creative and editorial department where required. 


Key Skills

* Researching and identifying image sources online.

* Efficiency, commitment to high-quality work, ability to find and cultivate sources. Understanding of copyright is preferred.

* Fair proficiency in Adobe software, in particular Photoshop and Bridge.

* Willingness to work with or learn applications such as Slack, Figma or Trello for smooth workflow where necessary.

* Keen attention to detail.


The Caravan's Delhi office is a small shop, with the environment of a start-up, and therefore requires team players with a willingness to be flexible.

This is a full-time position. Night, holiday, and weekend work may be required.
