Editorial interns are incorporated into the magazine’s editorial process, learning how The Caravan’s stories are identified, researched and written. They learn to perform various tasks to assist editors with stories; primary responsibilities include duties such as researching, fact-checking, proofreading, transcribing interview material, editing online content, and compiling information about the magazine’s archives. Editorial interns may also have an opportunity to write for various sections of the magazine, including the Lede, Photo Essay, Showcase and Bookshelf. They are also encouraged to pitch stories for The Caravan’s web section, Vantage.

The internship is full-time—from 11 am to 7 pm, Monday through Saturday. Interns will be paid a stipend. The Caravan requires a three-month commitment from editorial interns, and accepts applications on a rolling basis.

To apply, please send a cover letter describing your interest in The Caravan and the editorial internship, as well as your overall career goals. Please also send a copy of your CV, a writing sample, and contact information for two references. Application materials should be addressed to ‘Internship Coordinator’ and sent to [email protected]. Please be sure to note ‘Editorial Internship’ in the subject line of your email. All materials must be submitted in English.
