International Press Institute asks US secretary of state to raise issue of press freedom on India visit

On 27 July, the International Press Institute—a global network of media executives and leading journalists formed to defend press freedom—wrote a letter to Antony Blinken, the US secretary of state, about the hostile climate towards independent journalism in India. The IPI asked Blinken, who began a two-day visit to India on 27 July, to raise the issue of press freedom during his bilateral meetings with Indian leaders. The statement is reproduced below.
