THE CRICKETERS RAVICHANDRAN ASHWIN,VVS Laxman, Sachin Tendulkar and Zaheer Khan (left to right) take the field at the Sydney Cricket Ground on 4 January 2012, the second day of the second Test on India’s tour of Australia between December 2011 and February 2012. The tour comprised a Test series and two Twenty20 matches pitting India against the host country, and a one-day-international tournament that also involved Sri Lanka. Australia swept all four tests, the Twenty20s were drawn 1–1, and India came last in the ODI series. Rahul Dravid, one of that team’s stalwart batsmen, retired in March 2012; Laxman, another veteran, followed suit that August. Tendulkar ended his career in November 2013.
