This book revolves around Syeda, who moved to Delhi in the wake of riots after the Babri Masjid’s demolition. She has done over fifty different jobs since, often juggling several a day. In building a portrait of her life, which was again thrown into turmoil by the 2020 Delhi violence, the book highlights stories with overlapping concerns—of gender, communal violence and systemic poverty, as well as global market changes and the experiences of working women in the urban informal sector.
