Shanta Gokhale

The author Shanta Gokhale writes the history of Shivaji Park in Dadar, Mumbai, one of the city’s earliest planned neighbourhoods, which was conceived after a plague epidemic in 1896. In it, she explores the neighbourhood’s earliest residents and traces the area’s centrality to political movements in 1950s and 1960s, including the United Maharashtra Movement and the launching of the Shiv Sena.
