Italian Capuchin friar, Padre Marco della Tomba worked in Bettiah, near Patna, as a missionary of the Tibet-Hindustan Mission sponsored by the Congregation of Propaganda Fide in Rome. During his time there, he recorded and commented on a number of critical, late 18th century events in the subcontinent’s history. This fascinating first person account has been put together by a professor of South Asian history on the basis of Padre Marco’s letters and essays.
