When Shaheen Mistri visited Mumbai as an 18-year-old teenager 25 years ago, she stumbled into a slum community. Expecting to encounter paucity, prejudice and pauperism, she instead came across children full of potential. This is the story of how Mistri committed herself to the goal of educational equity for every Indian child, starting a movement that has, to date, attracted 100,000 individuals. It includes personal accounts from Teach for India fellows and staff, as well as writing by children whose lives have been touched by the organisation.
