Manoj Kumar Panda
Translated by Snehaprava Das
This collection of 14 short stories from the Oriya writer Manoj Kumar Panda weaves together dramatic plots and vivid characters. One story narrates a woman’s journey to the house of a man who raped her. Another is about a village thrown into chaos by a tiger’s killing of a shepherd. The particularly haunting story that gives the collection its title describes a woman lying comatose in a refrigerated chamber, as her husband sits before her and finally shares thoughts he never dared express when she was conscious.
