This book, a mixture of historical research and travel writing, reflects on five thousand years of India’s past with a focus on “lost worlds.” Among the major sites it looks at are Dholavira in the Rann of Kutch and the Vijayanagar ruins in Hampi, and the book also extensively examines the accounts of early travellers such as Alberuni and Marco Polo.
