Selected and Translated by Leelawati Mohapatra, Paul St-Pierre and KK Mohapatra

This anthology collects short fiction by contemporary writers of Odia literature, such as Pratibha Ray and Nrusingha Tripathy, as well as by long-renowned ones, such as the twentieth-century author Gopinath Mohanty. Its editors estimate that the Odia short story is about a hundred and twenty years old, since prior to the author Fakir Mohan Senapati’s acclaimed story “Rebati,” Odia literature was dominated by longer prose and poetry. This book represents the range of experiments with theme and form that have occurred since.
