Around the middle of the 19th century, the author of this chronicle, a young beggar-priest, decided, along with his uncle, to cross the Vindhya mountains from his village in Maharashtra. Their trip coincided with the historic Sepoy Mutiny. This is a first-person account of their picaresque journey, recorded several years after their return home and first published in the early 20th century.
