At last year’s festival, a young school girl asked Nandan Nilekani what prompted him to write a book. The Infosys co-founder replied, “I wanted an invitation to the Jaipur Literature Festival.” He was only half joking. As the Jaipur Literature festival enters its fifth year this January, it does so already having hosted some of the biggest names on the literary scene: John Berendt, Ian McEwan, Vikram Seth, Salman Rushdie, Pico Iyer and Mohammed Hanif. This year’s line up looks just as promising. In attendance will be Ali Sethi, Amit Chaudhuri, Arvind Krishna Mehrotra, Geoff Dyer, Steve Coll and Tina Brown. On the programme are readings, talks, lunches, debates and cultural performances.
